Self-image

Die Monnem Pride (Christopher Street Day in Mannheim) is organized annually as demonstration for queer rights and against discrimination on queer people.

Registration & confirmation

a. Eligibility to participate
Initiatives, associations, parties or organizations (e.g. queer company networks) that are clearly committed to the elimination of discrimination and the rights of queer people outside of the demonstration and work towards equal rights for queer people in the region and Germany can take part in Monnem Pride. For visitors, all participants should have a clearly recognizable connection to the queer community and the annual theme or motto of Monnem Pride.

Participating groups must be directly related to the political demonstration and may not be of a commercial or purely promotional nature (e.g. purely advertising a company or selling products).

Persons and organizations who do not agree with the above-mentioned self-image or the guidelines of the demonstration, who belong to extreme parties or organizations, who belong to the extreme scene or who have already made inhuman statements in the past are not welcome at our demonstration and will be excluded from participation.

b. Registration procedure
Participation with a pedestrian group or a (motorized) vehicle must be registered in advance using the registration form (see Website) must be registered. Registration does not entitle you to participate. Each registration will be checked for compliance with the guidelines and legitimized by a confirmation of participation. This applies in particular to motorized vehicles and compliance with the design guidelines (see 3a and 3b). Registration is only considered successfully completed once confirmation of participation has been received.

Application deadline for the current year is 20.06.2025.

Content requirements

The demonstration is freely accessible to the whole of society and people of all ages. For this reason, activities that contradict the protection of minors must be refrained from and may lead to exclusion. In addition, a strict ban of weapons, drugs, alcohol and uniforms (with the exception of fetish clothing). Carrying weapons or consuming drugs, alcohol and/or substances or products that are harmful to minors will result in immediate exclusion from the demonstration.

a. Design
The area used to display the annual motto or theme of Monnem Pride must be at least 50% of the area used for the textual or graphic display on vehicles. The chosen (political) motif must be displayed on both sides of the vehicle. This is the only way to demonstrate the political nature of the demonstration to the assembly authorities. The remaining 50% can be used to place advertising content such as logos, images or internet addresses. However, the advertising of weapons, drugs, substances harmful to minors or products is still not permitted and will lead to exclusion from the demonstration.

b. Control
In order to check compliance with the design and demonstration guidelines, each registered group is obliged to submit the design for the vehicles by 05.07.25 to Monnem Pride at info@monnempride.de and have them approved.

Please use common formats such as PDF, JPG or PNG.

The person driving the vehicle is formally responsible for compliance with the conditions of the public order office.

d. Stewards

Each group is obliged to have the vehicle secured by stewards (“Radengel”) for the entire duration of the demonstration. The organization of these stewards is the responsibility of the groups themselves. Stewards must be of legal age, sober and of sound mind at the time of the demonstration. Groups with vehicles must be secured by additional persons (hereinafter referred to as “Radengel”).

  • Passenger car (also VW bus) - 4 Radengel
  • Truck up to 7 meters - 6 Radengel
  • Truck from 7 meters / Bus - 8 Radengel

A circumferential rope must be used for securing. Please ensure that the rope is long enough. Radengel have a special responsibility and are obliged from the start to the end of the demonstration not to take on any other tasks, such as distributing flyers/merch etc., in addition to their main function as Radengel. We recommend that ropes are only used by experienced stewards!

Foot groups and two-wheeled groups of up to 20 participants must each provide at least two stewards.

The stewards must be present at the briefing before the start of the demonstration and must be able to identify themselves to the police at all times. Each steward should wear a high-visibility vest as identification for the duration of the demonstration.

If you are unsure about the exact number of stewards, please contact us so that no discussions arise on the day of the demonstration.

On June 22 2025 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the QZM the obligatory safety training will take place. (approx. 2 hours) with subsequent determination of the order of the cars. The safety briefing is mandatory for all registered groups in order to participate in the demo.

The feedback meeting will take place on 23.07.25 from 5 p.m. in the QZM.

 e. Environment

Our demo also generates waste. We STRONGLY ask all participants to avoid litter. We therefore prohibit the use of confetti cannons and so-called “confetti shooters”. Shooters in particular usually use a type of aluminum foil that is difficult to remove manually and is not or only with difficulty biodegradable.

Glitter makeup that is used should be biodegradable. Make sure that materials are sustainable.

Any waste produced must be kept to a minimum and disposed of by the participants themselves (e.g. by carrying sufficient waste containers). The accumulated waste may not be disposed of in the set-up area, on the route or in the break-up area. Violations will be charged at a flat rate. Disposal costs will be charged additionally to the group management.

In order to reduce CO2 emissions, we ask participants to start any power generators and vehicles only shortly before the start of the demo procession.

Foot groups are preferred at the demonstration. We ask you to refrain from using large trucks.

f. Advertising material

The distribution of purely commercial advertising materials, vouchers, event information from e.g. non-queer companies is prohibited and may be prosecuted by the public order office. Only advertising materials that describe the political demands of the respective group, event information for queer events or, e.g. in the case of associations, their field of activity are permitted. Advertising materials and other give-aways must be handed over personally (not by the stewards). The throwing of flyers into the audience is prohibited (waste avoidance).

Substances and content that are harmful to minors are not permitted as advertising materials or give-aways. The distribution of alcohol in particular is strictly prohibited. Advertising materials should be used in a targeted and responsible manner in order to avoid waste.

Vehicles

a. Requirements

Vehicles (motorized and non-motorized) and public address systems must be registered. Registration must be made in advance using the online registration form.

Vehicles that are not registered will be excluded from participation.

Only vehicles that are licensed for public road traffic may participate; this will be checked by TÜV at the start of the demo. The vehicles must be suitable for driving along the route without any problems. This includes passing through narrow lanes, sometimes with parked vehicles at the side of the road, and driving around tight bends. The loading area must not be extended when the vehicle is in motion. Section 22 (2) StVO applies to the height and width of the superstructure. The maximum permissible height of the vehicle from the ground to the highest point of the superstructure or persons is 4.00 m, the width is 2.55 m and the length is 18.00 m.

Excluded are:
• Horses and other draft animals, as well as vehicles intended to be pulled by them (e.g. also sulkies)
• Open, double-decker buses (if passengers are to travel on top)
• Beer bikes and Segways, as well as comparable vehicles

The loading area of trucks must be level and slip-resistant. The standing area must be secured by a sufficiently high railing or parapet (upper edge 100 cm - 120 cm above the standing area and at least one intermediate railing halfway up). At least 0.5 square meters of floor space must be provided per person.

The registering group must ensure that the vehicle is suitable for the route and provide a driver who is experienced in handling the vehicle, has a valid driving license and carries it with them.

It is not permitted to get on or off the vehicle while it is in motion. It is also not permitted to stand on vehicle roofs, mudguards, running boards, loudspeaker boxes or similar. When transporting persons on the vehicles, the provisions of § 21 StVO must be observed. Vehicles may not be driven with an open loading area.

The police will inspect and inspect all vehicles with the TÜV before the start of the demonstration. If necessary, the police can exclude vehicles from the demonstration procession before the start or during the demonstration.

b. Fire protection

The fire protection regulations must be observed. Load-bearing components under which people are present must be fire-resistant. Flame-retardant material must be used for decoration.

When selecting decorative materials, it is important to ensure that the materials comply with fire protection class “B1 flame retardant” in accordance with DIN 4102 Part 1.

Fire and naked flames are prohibited on the vehicles. Flammable liquids or gas cylinders may not be carried on the loading area. A sufficient number of fire extinguishers and first aid kits must be carried.

c. Public address system

Music must be registered in advance. The volume of the public address systems must not exceed the permitted sound pressure level of 90 dB(A). This maximum value must be ensured by appropriate technical equipment (e.g. the tamper-proof installation of a limiter).

Music may only be played during the demonstration. The music must be turned off during the line-up, briefing of the stewards and after the end of the parade. When selecting music, we ask you to refrain from discriminatory content and discriminatory artists.

Groups that do not adhere to this requirement of the regulatory authorities will be immediately prohibited from using any authorized aids (vehicles, public address systems, etc.) for the remainder of the demonstration. In this case, the public address system will be switched off and the vehicle will be cleared except for the group leader. The group may continue to participate as a foot group for the remainder of the demonstration.

At most, a warning will be issued! These drastic measures are the only way to avoid further requirements from the regulatory authorities in the future (e.g. measurement and sealing of the facility by a sworn expert, etc.). We therefore endeavor to avert such cost-intensive measures in the interests of all parties involved.

Costs

The organization and implementation of the CSD and the demonstration is organized exclusively on a voluntary basis, but causes high costs every year, especially for GEMA, barriers, toilets, security services, communication technology, rescue services and fees.
